Places of Local History and
Points of Interest

While we don't want to down play the importance of our local history at Gettysburg, we would like to point out other attractions you may wish to visit in our local area.  We have put together a 1  1/2 hour self guided driving tour which covers the area from Fairfield, Blue Ridge Summit,
Pen Mar, Pennersville, Monterey (including the Battle of Monterey Pass) and other small communities in our area.  Be sure to ask for a copy of the guide if you stay at the Martin House B & B.  The tour will take you on Lee's retreat route from Gettysburg, including the Battle of Monterey Pass; will show remains of the historic Tapeworm Railroad; an original Crown Stone from the surveying of the Mason-Dixon LIne; the beautiful mountaintop wetlands known as Happel's Meadow; historic buildings; and many other points of interest and history in our area.

Martin House  B & B Gift Shop

The Historic Martin House

Join the fun February16th from 6-9pm!
You've Heard the Buzz.....This is Not Your Typical Paint Night!

You will arrive at the charming and intimate setting of the Historic Martin House where your hand sketched canvas* awaits you, along with pre-selected paints & brushes. All you need to do is pull up a chair and enjoy the evening. No experience necessary.
You and your friends will enjoy a relaxing and informative evening learning some tidbits of history surrounding the towns of Fairfield and Blue Ridge Summit. Indulge in a sumptuous pairing of five local hand crafted wines from Halbrendt's Vineyard & Winery and Nathan Miller's culinary delights, including some pretty amazing artisan truffles.
It’s as easy as 1,2,3! You'll leave at the end of the evening with your masterpiece, amazed at how much fun you had!

And, as always, we will be sharing the love and donating a portion of the proceeds from the evening to a noble and worthy local cause. This time it will be to The Amanda Bowders Memorial Fund which cares for and maintains Mandy's Garden, a living community memorial dedicated to Amanda "Mandy" Bowders. Mandy was an active Girl Scout and an extraordinary young woman who dedicated her life to giving back to her community. Her life was cut short in a tragic sledding accident on Feb. 14, 2007, at the age of 19.

*You must send your subject photo in at least one week in advance. Not sure what to select? How about a beloved pet, childhood home or historical landmark? The artist pre-sketches your subject on canvas prior to the event. Questions? Please contact us at
